OUR  STORY

Africa stands at a pivotal juncture, with its youthful population presenting both a significant challenge and an unparalleled opportunity. As of 2023, approximately 41.5% of Nigerians are under the age of 15, and nearly 70% are under 30, positioning Nigeria as the nation with the largest youth population globally. This demographic, if adequately educated and empowered, holds the key to driving economic growth, innovation, and societal transformation.

However, the current state of Nigeria’s public education system threatens to squander this potential. Infrastructural decay, inadequate resources, and systemic challenges have led to a significant educational crisis. By 2022, the number of out-of-school children had surged to 18.5 million, marking a troubling increase from previous years. Furthermore, only about 22% of schools have access to computers and the internet, highlighting a significant digital divide that hampers the quality of education. The public education system, once a beacon of hope, is in decline. From 2018 to 2020, primary school enrollment in public schools decreased by 62,000, while private schools saw an increase of 82,000. The student-to-teacher ratio in public primary schools stands at 1:49, surpassing the recommended 1:35, indicating overcrowded classrooms and strained resources.

This educational decay has broader implications. Nigeria accounts for 20% of the world’s out-of-school children, with approximately 10.5 million children lacking access to education. Without intervention, this trend threatens to perpetuate cycles of poverty and underdevelopment.

Our Founder

The Change Through Education Initiative (CTEI) was born out of a personal journey. Our founder, Mrs. Adetutu Olayinka, an engineer, educator and entrepreneur recognized the systemic challenges in Nigeria’s education system after addressing her son’s unmet educational needs. She established schools that garnered recognition from esteemed institutions like the British High Commission and the American Embassy. Her experiences in public schools highlighted the urgent need for reform, inspiring the creation of CTEI to bridge educational gaps and empower youth, especially girls, through mentorship and skill-building programs.
At CTEI, we believe that education is the cornerstone of national development. By investing in our youth, we aim to transform Nigeria’s demographic potential into a driving force for economic growth, social stability, and global competitiveness.

Join us in our mission to reshape Africa's future through education.
